of the busy room that blinked and beeped and ticked,
burned sandalwood;
its incensed fog
a place for a soul to hide
in that first vulnerable moment.




Missing Men and Boys Found in a Field, Their Bones

intact, clothed. A hawk nearly at eyelevel
soars the field below
while I observe from the deck,
the press box: its tenseness,
its hungry hooked beak.
Disinterested, I never take sides.
An unbiased journalist, I make note
as it drops, talons outstretched and gleaming.
